2023 Legacy Cup Recap

By September 18, 2023No Comments

The 3rd Annual Legacy Cup was played this past weekend at Dobson Ranch Golf Course and the day was full of excitement and energy. The event was filled with 25 four person teams all vying to become the newest championship team of this wonderful JGAA Foundation event. Players were handed a swag bag at check-in that included SMASH headwear, golf balls, and a new Footjoy Hydro golf glove. Everyone was also encouraged to pick up some raffle tickets for both the Golf Car Raffle and the on site tournament raffle.

The tournament raffle had prizes including a new Scotty Cameron putter, a Vokey wedge, a 65” Samsung TV, foursomes of golf throughout the valley, golf balls and more. Our grand prize of the event was a drawing for a 2023 Club Car Onward Lithium Ion Golf Car valued at nearly $17,000. Tickets for the Golf Car Raffle have been on sale for since April and for the first time in Legacy Cup history the winner of the golf car raffle was a participant of the event. Local JGAA Ambassador and friend to Arizona golf Mr. Steve Dallas was the holder of the winning ticket number and claimed the new golf car.

As for the Legacy Cup the winning team of Tim Gillis, Cole Gillis, Jake Goyen, and Mark Walker shot an amazing 53 (-19) to win by one shot over Dobson Ranch Golf Course Team Frazier. The victory round included a score of eagle on all par 5’s overcoming three pars on the par 3’s #4, 7, and 14.

Please help us thank our volunteers and our Legacy Sponsors-Action Golf Carts, Dobson Ranch Golf Course, Apache Creek Golf Course and Mountain Brook Golf Club (Steve Dallas) for their amazing support. Our corporate partners for the Legacy Cup included No Mow Grass and Green (Brian Miller), NBC Sports Next (Charles Kingsbaker), Avalon Dental (Dr. Taryn Wollschlager), Spectra Contract Flooring (Brett Porter), and Integrity Outsource (Joe Beers). All proceeds from the event go to support two local non-profits, The Pops and Junior Foundation at Dobson Ranch and the JGAA Foundation which funds Youth on Course Arizona, the JGAA Financial Aid Assistance Fund, and other JGAA initiatives.

A special shout out to the entire Goyen Family (Hub, Sue, Lexi, and Jake) for their efforts in making this event so special. Thank you to all who played in and/or supported the event and we hope to see you all in 2024 for the 4th playing of the Legacy Cup.
