“It’s exciting. It’s always fun,” said Chez Reavie after notching his third victory, which came Sunday, July 17 at the Barracuda Open. “This game beats you up so much; you really have to enjoy it when you play well, and when you do win. I’m looking forward to the fourth.”
Strong winds swept across the Lake Tahoe region during the final round, but after few putts slid by the hole, Reavie’s flat stick came through in the end.
“It was stressful out there today with the wind and missing some putts early,” Reavie said. “Was fortunate to make some good putts coming in and pull it off.”
Sitting at 101 FedExCup Rankings before Barracuda, Reavie vaulted up 52 spots to 49th.
The Scottsdale resident’s first win came back in 2008, the year he turned pro, at the RBC Canadian Open. It took 11 years to repeat in the 2018-‘19 season at the Travelers Championship.
“I’ve been working hard,” Reavie said. “I’ve been hitting the ball and I knew I could do it. I just kept grinding, and here we are.”
The 40-year-old Arizona resident grew up playing in JGAA tournaments, wining several championships along the way. He also played prep golf for Dobson High. Reavie moved on to play for the Sun Devils from 2001 to 2004 with 14 tournaments entered, eight top-10 finishes and second-team All-American honors before turning professional in 2004.
Reavie had opportunities to win at home at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. In 2018, he was out-dueled in a playoff by Gary Woodland, and he finished T4 in 2019.
“I carried the sign board here growing up when I was in high school and junior high and to have a chance to win the tournament this week was a lot of fun,” Reavie said after the 2018 event.
