Held July 6-7 at Antelope Hills Golf Course, Scottie Belgrad fired a final round 65, winning the Prescott City Junior Championship at 8-under par, three ahead of second place finisher Kendall McCain, -5. And Cole Gillis took third place at -4 after a strong 5-under 67 final round, which included four consecutive birdies on holes 1-4.
For his part, Belgrad birdied holes 1 and 4 in the first round on the par-71 North Course on his way to a 1-under 70. The next day the Paradise Valley resident posted a bogey-free scorecard on the par-72 South Course, with four birdies on the front nine and three more on the back for a 7-under 65. McCain filled in behind with some fireworks of his own. In the first round the Flagstaff resident made three consecutive birdies and an eagle to fire -3 on the back nine. In the second round he made the turn at 4-under 32.
Kendall Hayward (70-75) of Mesa en route to the University of Montana in the fall came out on top of the Girls Championship division in a playoff, after finishing tied for first place with Lily Huether (74-71) of Tucson at 2-over par. Hayward broke par in the first round to hold a four-stroke lead over Huether and eventual third place finisher, Cynthia Lang (74-72) of Chandler. In the second round, it was huether’s turn to shoot red numbers, carding 1-under 71 to pull even with Hayward. Cynthia Lang of Chandler shot two steady round of 74-72 to take solo-third place at +3.
Dylan Boenning of Phoenix won the Boys 15-18 division after shooting 72-72, 1-over par, and two players finished tied for first place in the Girls 15-18 division at 17-over par. Emmie Rhude (81-79) of Carefree won in a playoff over Kylie Kuppersmith (83-87) of Gilbert.
The Boys 13-14 division Nathan Ash of Tempe shot even-par 77-66 to win, and Kaitlyn Moreland of Scottsdale (77-70) won the Girls 13-14 division in a playoff over Saydie Wagner (77-70) of Scottsdale after both finished regulation play tied at +4.
Karsten McCain of Flagstaff won the Boys 11-12 division at 7-under-par 65 (33-32) while Mischa Wang of Scottsdale won on the girl’s side 11-12 at 2-over-par 74 (41-33).
Rydder Erbach of Scottsdale won the Boys 10 and Under division at even-par 72 (37-35), and Beau Ellington of Paradise Valley shot 1-under 71 (35-36) to win the Girls 10 and Under division.
