Jayden Jevnick wins the Girls Championship by two.
Last year’s runner-up, Carlos Astiazaran, of Tucson won the Boys Championship division at the 2022 Tucson City Junior Championship, held June 1-2 at Randolph North Golf Course. At 3-under 69, Astiazaran sat one stroke behind first round leader, Nash Arthurs, of Peoria who made an eagle-3 and five birdies en route to his 4-under 68 in round one. Astiazaran followed with a 1-over 73 in the second round to finish in first place at -2 for the tournament, two strokes clear of Arthurs (68-76), and Peoria’s Tyler Linam (72-72), tied for second place at even par. The win marks Astiazaran’s first of the season, second in Tucson after a 2021 victory at the Tucson Conquistadores Spring Classic.
The Girls Championship division competition took place at Dell Urich Golf Course, with Cave Creek’s Jayden Jevnick coming in first place after a 71-69, even-par performance. She finished two strokes ahead of two players – Zoe Newell (74-68) of Oro Valley and Kate Connolly (69-73) of Anthem – tied at 2-over par.
Despite Chase Pickering’s final round 2-under charge, Ross Kocsis of Phoenix shot 3-over-par 75-72 at Randolph North to win the Boys 15-18 division. At Dell Urich, Elijah Marshall of Henderson, Nevada won the Boys 13-14 division at 3-over par, after finishing strong with a one-under 69. In the 11-12 division, Kallum De Guia of Tucson won with a pair of 37s to finish at 4-over par. and Rydder Erbach of Scottsdale finished +12 to win the Boys 10 and Under division.
In the Girls 15-18 division competition at Dell Urich, Mackenzie Bream of Phoenix shot rounds of 73-78 for the win at +11. Kaitlyn Moreland of Scottsdale took the Girls 13-14 division at +10, 77-73, and Ariela Renee Trejo of Tucson won the Girls 10 and Under division after shooting 8-over par, 37-41.
