Makes an impact for junior golf locally and nationally.
Congratulations to our good friend Robin Farran! The United States Golf Association (USGA) recently awarded the Chandler resident and longtime supporter of the JGAA with the 2021 Ike Grainger Award.
The award goes to “those individuals who have served the Association as a volunteer for 25 years,” according to the USGA. “These dedicated men and women tirelessly give back to the game through a variety of roles. Many serve as Rules officials at USGA qualifiers/championships. Others assist in administrative roles. But they all have one common attribute: they love the game of golf.”
That certainly fits Farran. As a 2018 inductee to the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame and 2017 Arizona Golf Association Doc Graves Volunteer of the Year, Farran volunteers 100-plus days a year locally as a Rules official for the AGA and JGAA. Over his volunteer career he has volunteered as a Rules Official at more than 100 USGA Championships.
“Robin helps everywhere we need it,” said Scott McNevin, executive director of the JGAA. “I believe he’s raised over $100,000 in the 100-hole marathon, which he’s played in it for several years, and Robin served as a JGAA board member in the past.”
Robin is a mentor and resource to rules officials throughout the country with the distribution of his weekly Rules of Golf quizzes to 600 volunteers and golf administrators. He is currently an instructor at the Professional Golf Career College and previously taught Rules classes for nine years at the Golf Academy of America.
