Free event sponsored by The Thunderbirds for ages 3-5 served more than 800 kids Valley-wide.

The JGAA hosted the 2019 Itty Bitty Open Saturday, January 12 at 20 parks located in Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa, Peoria, Scottsdale, Surprise, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, Goodyear and Maricopa. Free and open to all kids ages 3-5 years old, the event featured three clinic times per location (9, 10 and 11 a.m.) where juniors and their parents learned the basics of golf taught by qualified PGA and LPGA professionals. After the clinics, the kids participated in fun-filled, non-competitive golf games and tournaments, and each received a set of plastic golf clubs, balls, a bag, and a visor.

“Every golfer starts somewhere,” said Scott McNevin, Executive Director of the JGAA. “We’re proud to be a part of getting hundreds of youngsters started in a game they hopefully will be playing all their lives.”

A special contest with prizes was held at each session for the “Best Dressed Golfer and Caddie Team.” All winners received a congratulatory letter, a trophy, and two tickets for the R.S. Hoyt, Jr. Dream Day Activities at the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open presented by Ak-Chin Indian Community.
