The Superstition Junior Classic presented by Action Golf Carts teed off April 25-26 at Mountain Brook Golf Club. The stunning stop on the JGAA circuit sported plenty of thrills and A-game caliber golf.
In the Boys Championship division, a three-way tie atop the leaderboard set the stage for a final-round battle. Among the first-round frontrunners were Parker Servoss of Tucson, Santiago Liberto of New Mexico and Cason Dezzani of Scottsdale, who each vied for that first-win breakthrough. A final round shootout seemed to be on the horizon, but Servoss kicked it into high gear took matters into his own game. The gap widened hole by hole as the Tucson kid strung together clutch putts and a tone-defining birdie on the 10th hole to open the back nine — the starting point for the final round’s shotgun format. The fellow players couldn’t keep up or catch up to his exceptional play. The turning point unraveled on the front nine thanks in large part to a clean, bogey-free scorecard of 1-under 35 to gain solo possession and put the championship to bed. That’s all she wrote as he concluded the event at 7-under par to rack up his first victory of the 2026 JGAA season. Jake Goyen of Mesa, Nash Yogurtian of Gilbert, and Jordan Tees of Tucson each tied for second at 3-under par.
In the Girls Championship division, Ashley Malko of Gilbert mounted a comeback victory after trailing by three shots. After a 5-over par opening round, she channeled her competitive instincts, hit a rhythmic stride and tore it up in the final round, walking into the clubhouse at even-par 71. Malko closed with a 2-under effort over the final seven holes, catapulting herself into a category of her own and topping the field by four strokes to join the winner’s circle. Sophia Miller of Iowa, Yura Nakayama of California, Victoria Cosenza of Phoenix and Cynthia Lang of Chandler all tied for runner-up honors at 9-over par.
In the Boys 15-18 division, Liam Odell of Tucson broke through for his first win of the 2026 season, defeating Mason Bahr of Colorado in a head-to-head playoff at 6-over par (73-73-146).
Meanwhile, in the Girls 15-18 division, Mataya Hampson of Canada led the field with identical rounds of 74-74 to finish at 6-over par and claim her first win of the 2026 campaign. The Canadian made quite a splash on the Arizona junior golf scene and adds her name to this year’s list of winners.
A special thanks to Action Golf Carts, Steve Dallas and the Mountain Brook team for their incredible support of junior golf in Arizona!
