This past week the Junior Golf Association of Arizona wrapped up its final tournament of the summer. The Scottsdale City Junior Championship was contested on Aug. 17-18 at TPC Scottsdale and Gainey Ranch Golf Club.
For Boys Championship division, Chase Cesarek of Tucson fired rounds of 66-67 for a 9-under-par total to reign victorious and win by two shots over Tommie Clark of Mesa. Clark finished the golf tournament at 7-under par. Connor Bringhurst of Scottsdale finished third place with rounds of 70-66 for 6-under-par total for the tournament.
As for the Girls Championship division, Alexis Vakasiuola of San Tan Valley and Charlene Lamb of Scottsdale went head-to-head in a playoff after finishing the golf tournament at 1-over par. Vakasiuola fired a 76-67 with a 4-under-par low round of the day which was good enough for her to tie the lead and force a playoff with Lamb. Vakasiuola prevailed over Lamb in a sudden-death playoff to win the Girls Championship division.
Moving over to the Boys 15-15 division, Emery Shroyer of Scottsdale clinched a win by a stroke after finishing 3-over par with rounds of 73-72 to conclude the golf tournament. Jackson Malatesta of Phoenix finished solo-second with rounds of 71-75 to finish at 4-over par. Jonathan Ljungberg of Scottsdale finished third place at 7-over par with rounds of 73-76.
Isabel Helgemoe of Scottsdale earned her first-place finish in the Girls 15-18 division at 14-over par with rounds of 75-81. Aubrey Pizzillo of Goodyear trailed by one shot, finishing the golf tournament at 15-over par with rounds of 80-77. Alexis Goyen of Mesa and Payton Connelly of Phoenix both tied for third place, finishing at 17-over par.
AJ Ramos of Tucson claims another victory to finish off his summer golf circuit. Ramos finished the tournament at 2-under par with rounds of 73-69 to win by one shot. Kallum De Guia of Tucson and Hagen Lancaster of Anthem both finished at 1-under par for the golf tournament.
For the Girls 13-14 division, Ashley Malko of Gilbert won by six shots. Malko finished the golf tournament at 3-over par with rounds of 71-76. Mischa Wang of Scottsdale earned her second-place spot with rounds of 75-78 for a 9-over par total. Samantha Evangelista of Queen Creek earned a spot in third place with rounds of 79-75 to finish the golf tournament at 10-over par.
The Boys 11-12 division saw red with back-to-back low rounds from Nolan Wilson of Litchfield Park. Wilson earned his victory by firing a pair of 32’s to finish at 8-under par for the golf tournament. Cat Dann of Mesa finished solo second with a two-round total of 1-under par with rounds of 39-32 for the golf tournament. Hunter Mirata of Gilbert and Cam Abood of Paradise Valley both tied for third place with an even par total for the golf tournament. In the Girls 11-12 division, Jessica Hoerr of Phoenix pulled off the win in a playoff against Abby Kelly of Mesa. The win is her third of the 2024 season.
Amy Xuan of Chandler took home the title for the Girls 10 and Under division with rounds of 41-42 to finish at 11-over par for the event. Emmaline Dang of Mesa finished at 16-over par with rounds of 47-41 to earn her spot at second place. Fable Williams of Sun City earns her spot at third place with back-to-back rounds of 46-46 to finish at 20-over par.
Maddux Zlotoff of Scottsdale wins the Boys 10 and Under division by three shots with back-back rounds of 37-37 to finish the golf tournament at +2 over-par. Raleigh Butler of Gilbert earns his solo second with rounds of 40-37 to finish the golf tournament at +5 over-par. Ryan Chin of Chandler finishes the golf tournament at +7 over-par with scores of 41-38 to earn him a solo third place finish.
