The 9th annual U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship was underway at the prestigious Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas, May 11-15. JGAA’s very own Gracie McGovern put on an impressive showing at this year’s USGA amateur event with playing partner Brynn Kort of Henderson, Nevada. McGovern, future TCU Horned Frog and 2023 Heather Farr Classic champion, played stellar golf all week at a challenging Oak Hills, only to come up short in the title match on Wednesday and finish runner up. The final match was neck and neck and went down to the wire.
McGovern, a seasoned competitor in two U.S. Women’s Amateurs and a U.S. Girls’ Junior, alongside Kort, a verbal commit to Texas A&M for 2025 and a participant in her fourth USGA championship, both faced birdie opportunities from distances of 9 and 8 feet, respectively, on the par-5 15th. However, they were unable to convert.
Kort and McGovern found themselves in a critical situation. She needed to sink an uphill 18-footer to keep the match alive, while Kort’s missed green led to a flop shot that fell short by 3 feet. Unfortunately for McGovern, her putt didn’t find the hole, prompting the concession of the birdie putts and ultimately conceding the match. However, Runners-up Brynn Kort and Gracie McGovern received silver medals and a three-year exemption from qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball, provided the side remains intact.
A key moment to highlight for Gracie was an unforgettable ace on the par-3 ninth in Tuesday’s quarterfinals, her favorite memory from the week. The JGAA is proud to see McGovern shine bright on the big stage and can’t wait to see what she accomplishes at TCU!
