JGAA Junior Golfers Commit To Play College Golf

The Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA) is delighted to report that 41 Arizona junior golfers and 51 total JGAA members signed National Letters of Intent to play collegiate golf.

“Every year we have the pleasure of watching a bunch of our junior golfers advance to the next level of college golf. One of our main goals is to get them ready,” said Scott McNevin, executive director of the JGAA. “We wish them all the best with their next challenge.”

One JGAA member from Phoenix signed locally with the University of Arizona. Kate Hauptman, 17, will become a Wildcat after a strong 2023 JGAA season. In eight events played, she had four top-10s and a runner up finish at the Maricopa Junior Championship.

Vincent Cervantes of Chandler signed with the University of Marquette in Wisconsin. The future Golden Eagle had an impressive 2023 campaign, collecting a win in his hometown at the Chandler City Junior Championship, plus a runner up and four top-10s in six events entered.

Gracie McGovern of Scottsdale is heading to Texas Christian University at Fort Worth. The 11th ranked AJGA player had a promising year in which she secured a victory at the prestigious PING Heather Farr Classic and qualified for the PING Junior Masters Series after her win at the FBGA-Mina Harigae PING Jr. Masters.

Tyler Spielman of Cave Creek is joining the SEC at the University of Auburn. The 2024 grad ended the 2023 JGAA season with three runner ups and four top-10s in six events entered.

The 41 Arizona junior golfers moving on to collegiate golf certainly maximized their JGAA experience through the many competitive tournaments it hosts. They’ll soon be teeing it up across the U.S. from Texas Christian University to the University of Oregon. However, participants don’t need to be college-bound superstars to fit in at the JGAA. As a 501(c) (3) organization with the mission to educate, motivate and inspire Arizona’s future leaders through the game of golf, the JGAA places just as much emphasis on developing life skills as golf skills.
