Preston Summerhays and Ashley Menne Post Wins at the 2018 New Years Classic

After round one of the two-round tournament, Preston Summerhays of Scottsdale and Caden Christopherson of Chandler were tied for first place with matching, tournament-low, 6-under-par 66s carded at Dobson Ranch Golf Course. Summerhays (66-70—136, -7) followed with a 1-under 70 the next day at ASU Karsten Golf Course to win by two strokes over Christopherson (66-72—138, -5). Grant DuMars of Phoenix finished in third place at 4-under par (70-69—139). 

In the Girls Championship Division, Ashley Menne, Surprise, started out the season with a two-stroke victory over Madeleine Laux of Goodyear (71-73—144, +1). Menne fired an opening round 3-under-par 69 at Dobson Ranch before cruising to victory with a 1-over-par 73 at ASU Karsten finishing at 1-under par for the tournament. Breyana Matthews of Scottsdale came in third place at 2-over-par 145 (74-71).  

In the Boys 15-18 Division, Ross Leveque of Scottsdale (77-75) edged out Max Lyons of Peoria (76-76) and Riley Brown of Peoria (73-79) in a playoff. All three finished regulation play deadlocked at 9-over-par 152. Anawin Pikulthong of Gilbert finished three strokes ahead of the nearest competitor to win the Boys 13-14 Division at 2-over par (76-70, 146).  Kora Lee of Avondale won in the Boys 11-12 Division (71-71—142, +12). And Cameron Summerhays (36-37—73, +9) of Scottsdale won in a playoff over Gavin Ly (35-38) of Goodyear.

Sydnee DiMascio, Scottsdale, won in the Girls 15-18 Division at 20-over par (82-82—164). Kailani Deedon of Mesa won the Girls 13-14 Division at 9-over par (75-78—153), and Brantlee Howard of Scottsdale won the Girls 11-12 Division at 26-over par (78-78—156).

The next JGAA event on the schedule is the Wigwam Invitational, a Junior Masters tournament to be held at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, January 27-28.
