Ashley Menne of Surprise advanced from stroke play at the 70th U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Poppy Hills Golf Course at Pebble Beach by firing 1-under-par 141 (69-72). She won her round of 64 and round of 32 matches 3 and 2 before moving onto the round of 16 where she fell 3 and 2 to Valery Plata of Colombia.

This marks Menne’s third – and best – appearance in the tournament: in 2017 she made it to round of 32; and in 2016 Menne missed the cut in stroke play.

At the end of stroke play, Elizabeth Caldarelli (freshman at Texas A&M) of Scottsdale advanced to the round of 64 in dramatic fashion by making a hole in one from 134 yards on the 17th hole at Poppy Hills on the third playoff hole. She eventually came up short in the round of 64, 3 and 2. The final two Arizona players in the field, Kelly Su and Bailee Tayles, both of Scottsdale, missed the cut in stroke play.
