A Week to Remember…

By March 25, 2015No Comments

The LPGA*USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix is coming off of an extremely busy & exciting week at the LPGA JTBC Founders Cup. As you may have heard, The Wildfire Golf Club at the JW Marriot at Desert Ridge was home to the 2015 JTBC Founders Cup on March 19-22. It was the first LPGA Tour event of 2015 on American soil & has a purse of 1.5 million for the ladies. This event is like no other & offered a family-friendly platform to possibly meet professional players, watch amazing golf & spark some golf excitement in all of us!

Because our Phoenix chapter is an awesome, strong & founding chapter of the Girls Golf national program, we were offered many opportunities to participate in some of the happenings.

The week kicked off with an amazing Girls Golf Kick off DISCO PARTY! We had a photo booth, bean bag toss, glow golf, disco dancing, hula-hoop contests & tons of fun!!! Several LPGA players were on hand to join in the fun including: Beatriz Recari, Sandra Gal, Marissa Steen & Cheyenne Woods.

On Wednesday, March 18th, Local Phoenix girls got to rock the Media Stage with the LPGA Tour Girls Golf Ambassadors: Tiffany Joh, Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lincicome & Lizette Salas. Even a few local girls were selected as “lookalikes”! After the press conference, a few girls got to walk on course with Pro-Am groups as special inside the ropes honorary observers. The week was off to a wonderful start. CLICK HERE for Media Day press coverage!

The Tournament rounds began on Thursday, March 19th. Tour Player, Sandra Gal, has a new initiative this year – “A Walk with Sandra” – and she was able to have two Phoenix girls with her on Thursday & Friday rounds. That was a special experience that our members will never forget.

On Saturday, March 21st, a few LPGA Hall of Famers played 9 holes on course & two Phoenix girls had some fun with Pat Bradley, Betsy King, Nancy Lopez & Pat Sheehan. What an amazing group & such a treat for these girls to spend time with such legends, they all had so much fun! We also had an afternoon “First Swing” clinic with The Girls Scouts of America for girls that have never golfed. We had 120 girls in attendance & were happy to grow the game to new players.

The week concluded with final round festivities that included a Girls Golf Ice Cream Social, 24 Green/Tee Girls inside the ropes, a walk down 18 with the Lead players, Awards Ceremony & SO much fun for all involved.

During all of this, our Girls Golf Jr. Course Reporters rocked EVERY aspect of the week! These Girls, Ashley Menne & Katie Stinchcomb, left a professional impression on the players & all tournament staff. Great Job Girls! CHECK OUT the coverage!

Most of the LPGA players this week said that having so much involvement with Girls Golf is the BEST PART of the JTBC Founders Cup.

final - WinnerCongratulations to HJ Kim for her victory. Thank you to all the LPGA Players, LPGA Staff, JW Marriot Staff, Wildfire Golf Course, The LPGA*USGA Girls Golf, our amazing Volunteers – and most of all – Thank You to the AWESOME members & families of the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix that make this event a week to remember!!!
